EN 301 549 — the European accessibility standard
EN 301 549 is the European standard, published by ETSI, referenced by both the EU Accessibility Act (EAA) and the Web Accessibility Directive. Toiste bases its monitoring on its criteria.
What it is
EN 301 549 sets accessibility requirements for ICT products and services. It has been revised multiple times; the current version is V3.2.1.
Relationship to WCAG
For web content, EN 301 549 references WCAG 2.1 AA directly. In practice, WCAG conformance covers most of the standard’s web-facing obligations.
Why it matters for Toiste
The standard is the harmonized reference under the EAA — in Finland, Traficom supervises conformance against it. Toiste ties each finding to a specific clause (e.g. §9.1.1.1).
